The Southern Magnolia is blooming... lousy picture, taken with a telephoto lens, just to prove it!
It had rained all the time the lower ones were in bloom.
A small stand of Lilies peeks out from under the kousa dogwood tree, in the bed in front of the upper patio.
The pale yellow daylilies continue, but sparsley this season... probably because of last summer's drought.

Species azaleas, "Lemondrops" variety, bloom above and behind the pale yellow daylilies
and in several other spots along the Holly Ridge. These are somewhat rare plants,
which we purchased from a specialist grower in south Jersey.
Their blooms look a lot like honeysuckle and also have a sweet smell on a warm day.

Species azaleas are all deciduous and bloom comparatively, very late for azaleas, from summer into the fall.
We have three other, species varieties, which will bloom later, in shades of pink and
coral red, plus a white.
The species tolerate some shade, so I'm trying a couple in the back of the woodland garden in a sun spot there.
But, because of the greater shade, they are much slower growing and unimpressive to date.

Below the hollies are various kinds of hostas. This one shown on the left above is in bloom now.
Meanwhile, a critter made a tunnel last night... probably going after the big,
White Emperor tulip bulbs below ground.
We love having all the critters in the yard; so, it does not bother us.
Our arborist said to me, our first year here,
when we were discussing my ideas for the landscaping and I mentioned the squirrels,
"Just plant enough bulbs for everyone!" And so we do!
But, wait till you see what one of the critters did next month!!

The big Oakleaf Hydrangea is blooming in the woodland garden
and is also visible atop the wall looking from the center of the back yard.
It stands at the back end of the Woodland Garden, along with some large, red Bleeding Hearts.
In time, this bush will help hide the path from the Holly Ridge to the planned "Secret Garden" in the Back 40,
from the back of the Woodland Garden; and the Woodland Garden itself will be more enclosed.

Various kinds of ferns are going gang-busters in the Woodland!
And the small Bleeding Hearts are starting to re-bloom.

Woopieee!! We celebrated my birthday and our anniversary with these new chaises longues!
They also came with stuffed outdoor cushions.
It's soooo delightful just to sit on the hilltop in these and sip on lemonade and listen to the birds in the trees!
We've been waiting a lot of years for this opportunity!
But, as luck would have it, then the series of rainy weekends began!!!
